A warm welcome awaits you at Monkleigh House, a lovely Georgian family house in an idyllic setting within almost 2 acres of beautiful mature gardens on the outskirts of the village.
Monkleigh House was built by Lord Saltrens in 1808 and has a wonderful atmosphere and retains a wealth of period features. We are ideally situated between historic port town of Bideford and Great Torrington, within a few miles of the beautiful rugged coastline of North Devon.
The comfortable and tastefully decorated bedrooms have lovely views and are equipped with TV, clock-radio, hair-drier and bathrobes as well as many other touches to make you feel at home. One of the luxury bathrooms features the original cast iron, Art Deco style bath and a separate power shower, the other has a spa bath.
Our guests have private use of an elegant sitting room in what was formerly the library of the house. There is a television and stereo here as well as a large selection of books and a cosy wood-burner.
A hearty English breakfast using local produce and home baked bread is served in the stunning Regency style dining room.
Traditional Devon cream teas with homemade scones, delicious preserves and locally produced clotted cream are served in the gardens and the village Inn offering good, home-cooked food and a selection of real ales, is just 150m walk away.
Children are welcome and a cot or folding ‘guest bed’ and high chair are available. There is also a large play area in the gardens and baby-sitting can be arranged in the evenings.
