Description: Local attractions:
’60 Albert Street’ is a Victorian Town House situated in a quiet conservation area of the city. It lies between Wharton Park and Flass Vale, retaining a quiet, country ambience in the centre of a busy market town. Recently opened, the building has undergone a complete restoration. Each room has been elegantly furbished in keeping with it’s original character by way of period wallpapers, furniture and decoration throughout. The aim of the establishment is to offer a quiet, friendly and relaxing atmosphere within attractive surroundings. As only six people are catered for at any time guests can expect to receive a high standard of service, coupled with home cooking. Both English and Continental breakfast are served each morning with a good range of choices available for all tastes/diets. Albert Street remains one of Durham’s most architecturally interesting and originally preserved streets. It lies just off the busy shopping area of North Road, which in turn leads to the river banks and market square. Historical sites, notably the cathedral and castle, are only a ten to fifteen minute walk away, and the Botanical Gardens, Durham Light Infantry and Oriental Museums are easily accessible by foot. For theatre lovers Durham’s newly built Gala Theatre and Conference Centre is also centrally located. For guests staying in the city on business Albert Street is a particularly convenient location for visiting County Hall, The Passport Office, University of Durham, Land Registry, City Council Offices and both University and County Hospitals. It is also within thirty minutes drive/train journey of Newcastle, Sunderland, Gateshead, Washington and Darlington. Durham makes an excellent base for exploring the surrounding National Parks. Northumbria to the North, the North Yorkshire Moors to the South, and the idyllically unspoilt Weardale and Teesdale to the west are all excellent areas for walking, and easily accessible by either car or public transport. There are regular buses to both Beamish and Bowes Museums and Lindisfarne and the Alnwick Gardens can be reached by train. Albert Street itself is only a five minute walk from the main line railway station with frequent trains to excellent shopping destinations such as Newcastle, the Gateshead Metro Centre, York and Edinburgh. With so much to do and see in and around Durham we will be more than pleased during your stay to assist with any enquiries regarding attractions, ensuring you enjoy this truly beautiful and interesting area of England. For guests travelling by car the accommodation has private parking which is a necessity in Durham Centre.
